Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada
Because the government shutdown was ongoing, I decided to head to the California coast, where beaches and warmer temperatures could be enjoyed. Driving through Nevada however, I made a stop at Valley of Fire State Park, a stunning landscape of red sandstone, multicolored rock formations, and petroglyphs. They even have whole sections of pastel pink rock there. This incredible scenery is fairly close to Las Vegas and I’d recommend stopping by if possible.
Incredible photos! Isn’t there something incredibly mystical about petroglyphs? Every time I’m in the SW I try to find new ones, and I’m always entranced… I want to interpret them, it’s like they’re dreams….
I just love petroglyphs… I love trying to guess what people were thinking hundreds or thousands of years ago as they created them. They’re awesome.
I believe this is the park that Dannie and I did a very small amount of hiking around (we didn’t really have the right gear to be hiking around the area for more than an hour or so). The red rocks in that area were amazing to see. We saw some goats wandering around. It was cool. Goats are awesome.
The area really is beautiful, Joe. There is a park closer to Vegas called Red Rocks so you might have gone there too. Of course that was closed when I was passing through… And yes, goats are awesome. Of course.
