Random Sights and Canaveral National Seashore
Continuing to make my south I stopped at Fort Matanzas National Monument but the ferry that transports visitors to the island where the fort is located was closed due to wind. The nature trail was open however, and I had a refreshing stroll along the short boardwalk that led through a lush coastal hammock.

Another noticeable stop that day was a quick walk on Flagler Beach, notably for its striking dark amber colored sand, which is a contrast to the white, powdery grains that are prevalent in Florida.

My next stop was Canaveral National Seashore, a protected area of barrier island and lagoon that is home to rare hammock ecosystems and plentiful wildlife as well as wild stretches of sandy shores. The southern end of the barrier island is reserved for the famous Cape Canaveral Space Center.

Ooo, I’m a bit jealous! You’ve got some really nice beaches down there!
My hometown beach is actually Playalinda, which is part of the Cape Canaveral Seashore. You can see the NASA launch pads on the way out. There’s also a ‘nude’ beach at the very end at Pier 13 haha!
I don’t think I made it as far south as Playalinda. Definitely didn’t come across a nude beach! 😉 But that area is absolutely beautiful. I would love to see the NASA launch pads the next time I’m going out that way.
