Yahoo Falls, Big South Fork Recreation Area, Kentucky
Yahoo Falls was a hike that seemed to come up on every recommendation list and was mentioned by both rangers and tourists alike so it was definitely a hike I wanted to do. Even beyond its status as Kentucky’s highest waterfall at 193 feet, there is a very good reason for its popularity: in the land of waterfalls a’plenty, this one is especially fantastic. The sky was threatening rain and thunderstorms were forecasted the day of my hike but this ended up working in my favor because the exceedingly popular trail was completely deserted. I didn’t know how lucky I was until I got to the falls and realized that with trails running behind it and to the base of it I would have unobstructed views from literally every angle. When I finally climbed the trail back up the cliff I was treated to even more views above. There were overlooks very close to the actual cliff face but I snuck off trail a bit closer in a very secure-looking area of the cliff edge to capture a few illicit shots.
