Whitlteton Branch Trail, Daniel Boone National Forest and the Nada Tunnel

After lunch I ventured over to another trailhead at the edge of the park. Technically within the national forest, the Whittleton Branch Trail is a section of the Sheltowee Trace which meant it was marked with turtles. With the impending rain this short hike along the stream and through dense forest was very humid. Recent rain had also turned sections of the trail along the stream bank into mud pits, but that was actually kind of run to track through. Unfortunately there was a trail blockage before I got the spur leading to the arch, but I still enjoyed the couple-mile walk in the woods, particularly the picturesque stream and cute wooden bridges.

Another neat thing was that after leaving the park and driving north I passed through a one-lane tunnel originally chiseled out of the rock to let logging trains pass through. At only 12 feet wide, and 13 feet high, the 900 foot long Nada Tunnel is certainly an experience. I would have loved to stop driving and take a picture but it would have been impossible since both directions of traffic had to yield and then wait to pass.
