Wandering Around Cave Run Lake, Kentucky
The next day I had planned on doing some hikes in the Cave Run Lake area of the Daniel Boone National Forest but, as frequently happens when I attempt to plan activities, I ended up doing none of them. I instead took a lazy day exploring the shore and some short trails around the lake as well as taking a few extended reading breaks. It worked out.
The lake and shoreline are absolutely gorgeous. The water is pale blue and clear and the surrounding hills are thickly forested – a stunning combination. I particularly enjoyed spending time on a rocky, forested section of shoreline near (I think) Shallow Flats. So many blues and greens, and perfect clouds to boot. Had I stayed in the area and done the planned hikes I would have loved to camp on the shore or on the mountains overlooking the lake. Even driving Route 801, which runs along the northeast side, was incredibly pretty and well-worth a detour off I-64 if you happen to be in the area. I think I inadvertently irritated more than one driver since unlike me they seemed to have destinations while I was meandering at about ten miles below the speed limit.
Finally, my day ended just as beautifully as it started:
Amazing photos, as always! I still would really, really love to meet up sometime! Keep me update where you are! I want to go on a hike and grab a beer!
I will keep you updated and let you know if I think we’re near each other. Right now I’m in Connecticut and will be heading north in a couple days into maybe New Hampshire or Maine or Vermont or Canada… or wherever I find myself, ha. No plans for anything in the future besides a general idea to head west afterwards but I don’t see myself going back towards the southeast for awhile. Still, the hike and a beer will happen at some point for sure. I hope when I get to NC you can show me all the good hikes!
