Birch Point State Park was another place that captured my heart. Although really just a small stretch of shoreline, the park’s basalt-rimmed cove tucked into the towering conifers was a spectacularly beautiful place that I ended up staying at for an entire afternoon, eventually watching the sun sink behind the trees and the sky turn pink while I made my dinner. I spent much of my time climbing around the rocks but I also took time to just sit and enjoy the secluded little beach and the peace and quiet. It was one of my favorite places I visited in Maine – a true gem.
