A Belfast Surprise and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge
Belfast was a smallish town I happened across while driving north along Route 1. Spotting a local food co-op I pulled over to resupply on some dry goods. It was a normal shopping trip until I spotted:
Local Vegan Blueberry Whoopie Pie
Oh yes. And it was THE BEST THING EVER. After I happily ate lunch and my incredible dessert next to waterfront I decided to stroll a bit since it was a perfect bright sunny day. I quickly discovered a pedestrian bridge that crossed the bay and provided lovely views of the waterfront. And so what was expected to be a normal stop to pick up groceries ended up being a lovely and delicious midday adventure.
I then continued my way north along and before long came across the sleek cable-stay Penobscot Narrows Bridge, opened in 2006. Spanning over 1,100 feet and with a tower 447 feet tall, the bridge is an engineering marvel. For a fee you can ride to the top of the observatory which is most likely an amazing view. But just seeing the structure from the shore and driving across it was pretty great. I even managed to take some decent pictures while driving.
