Coastal travels: Mid-Coast and Northern Maine
I came across many beautiful sites as I continued my wandering up the coast of Maine. Salt marshes, rocky coasts, conifer forest, deep blue bays, smoothed-rock beaches, and charming waterfronts were around every turn and resulted in numerous stops and course changes as I followed the winding rural roads. And multiple fairly cold swims. Of course there were spectacular sunsets as well and, if you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, you’ll know I love sunsets.
I found myself in love with the northern Maine coast for all these reasons and hope to return again to see all the places I missed – I already have a list of places I’d like to see. I might also plan my visit to coincide with the annual pirate festival held in Lubec, which I was unfortunately a week too early for, arrrgh. So, this post is just a compilation of the rest of the random sites along my journey from the mid-coast up to the Canadian border:
Such a beautiful area. Brings back memories. I was in Maine for a couple of days in the Fall of 1999. Beautiful colours. I remember visiting Mount Cadillac and Acadia national parc. Stunning!
On one evening, it was already dark, a deer crossed right in front of my car. Wow. Luckily no collision!
The coast of Maine is truly something special. I passed through in the fall too and the colors were so beautiful! Wildlife of the roads up there is a big issue and really common – you’re lucky you didn’t hit a moose (though seeing one would have been cool)!
Was just up at Cobscook a few weeks back, isn’t it beautiful up there?
It’s a beautiful place up there, Colleen Ann. Thanks for reading!
