Turtles! George C. McGough Nature Park, Largo Narrows, Florida
I came upon the nature park while I was driving and looking for a spot to have breakfast. Since rain was imminent and I had no intent other than to read in my car for the day I thought I’d take a quick stroll around what appeared to be a garden. I was thus pleasantly surprised when I discovered a large pond full of turtles. I spent quite some time watching these adorable creatures, particularly the turtles that were both on a log and attempting to mount the log; the latter were repeatedly unsuccessful and quite amusing. Exploring further led me to a few cages of rehabilitated birds and owls and past that a mile loop through Florida hammock habitat. The last little treat was when I spotted a Little Free Library on my way back to the car; I thought it was great that it was stocked with both adult and kids books.
