Zion National Park, Part 2: Camp Creek

On the way back from Silver Reef, we made a short stop at Camp Creek, just inside the northwest corner of Zion National Park. This is a wilderness area and there are no trails per se but there’s an established route a half mile up the creek bed to the large drop that marks the mouth of the canyon. Luckily, we visited in March when runoff from mountain snow created a waterfall; other times of the year it’s dry. The short walk was very picturesque and the water falling over the red sandstone was really beautiful. I was also able to walk behind the water which happens to be one of my favorite things.

After retracing our steps we then walked about about a mile around the mouth of the canyon and hiked up the hill, recrossing the park boundary as we walked diagonally up the canyon and over to the lip. There is a faint path here, much less noticeable than the tracks along the creek below, but we only went as far as to get an overlook of the waterfall. The view of the sandstone canyon with the backdrop of snowy mountains was gorgeous and well worth the short hike.
