Driving Through Utah and Colorado
On the trip east we chose the scenic route and Tom graciously volunteered to drive during those stretches when I would want to enjoy the view. We made numerous stops at overlooks but on many occasions I simply took photos out the large RV windshield as we traveled through Utah and Colorado. We first went over the mountains on Route 14 in Utah, then north on 89 before turning onto Scenic Byway 12 which is famous for the Knife’s Edge – a ridge where the land falls away on both sides of the road – and Head of the Rocks which overlooks the Escalante Canyons. We then connected with Route 24 which runs through Capitol Reef National Park. Once in Colorado we went south on Route 50, driving through Curecanti and through a couple passes in the Rocky Mountains. I had only been on a couple of these roads so most of what I saw was new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed kicking back and watching the scenery.
Byway 12? Over 20 years ago, we drove a scenic route through Utah where the road dropped off in both directions and I always wondered where that road was. Thanks for reminding me. Welcome to Colorado. Hopefully you have time to enjoy 🙂
Thanks, Ingrid! Unfortunately, we were more or less passing through Colorado this time but I’ve been before and I have many places on my list there so I’ll be back. It’s one of the most spectacular states in my opinion.
