Lake Superior Provincial Park, Part 4: Katherine Cove
Katherine Cove gets a post all to itself even though it only took us twenty minutes to walk around the entire thing; it was another favorite place from our trip around Lake Superior. The crystal clear water over the submerged rocks was incredible, but as we rounded the point we caught sight of the criss-crossing quartz intrusions in the volcanic rock and then the stunning marbled pinks and grays of the twisted, submerged gneiss. We were fortunate to be there on a sunny day with calm water since we soon discovered how unpredictable the weather and the lake conditions can be though it must be said that the photos really, really do not do the vivid beauty of the cove justice.
