Wawa Waterfalls: High Falls and Silver Falls on the Magpie River
Just outside of Wawa, Ontario are two very pretty waterfalls on the Magpie River located upstream of the hydroelectric plant. Approximately 5 miles apart from each other, these falls are connected by a stretch of the Voyageur Trail – though we chose not to do the hike since we were eager to move on. We did however walk upstream around each set of falls in the interest of seeing different angles and we were glad we did at Silver Falls where we discovered the Upper Silver Falls above the Middle Falls.
The waterfalls at Wawa were some of the first we saw on our circle tour of Lake Superior and, as we discovered, typical of the many rivers rushing into the basin. After seeing a few more of these impressive rivers rushing towards their terminus we understood how Lake Superior could contain so much water. If you enjoy waterfalls as I do, a trip almost anywhere along the shore of Lake Superior will satisfy your craving.
