Pebble Beach, Marathon, Ontario
Pebble Beach is a 2km stretch of beach loaded with deposits of huge rounded pebbles and driftwood. Smoothed by wave action, the large rocks are piled on the steep shoreline making for difficult walking, but the beach is really beautiful and was well worth stopping for rock hunting. It was another overcast day when we visited but the moments of sunshine penetrated the clear water bringing out hues of greens and blues that were lovely.
It wasn’t all just rocks however. We stayed two nights in Marathon, camping on a very pretty lake north of town. The following afternoon after returning from our hike, we had a few hours of sunshine that brought out the green grasses and pines and reflected the blue skies in the calm water:
We stopped by here at the Pebble Beach Marathon on our way to Thunder Bay, this place is awesome and peaceful. The sound of the rocks being tumbled by Lake Superior is wonderful to listen to. I wish those rocks were smaller so I can bring some home π
It’s a special place for sure. I wished I could take ALL those rocks home! π
Pebbles Beach is a beautiful place having grown up in Marathon, I would have to say that this location is truly my happy place. Every time I return to Marathon I make a point of going there to sit on the drift would and look out at the lake. It is a very relaxing.
I know that if I lived in Marathon it would be my go-to place as well. We really enjoyed our afternoon there!
Those pebbles, stones, rocks are incredible Meghan! I would have had a seriously hard time not filling my pockets/finding a bag to grab and bring as many home as possible! π
It was such a great spot to rock hunt, Liz. We had a difficult time not collecting a bunch too!
